TEFL DAY 5: ESL/EFL MATERIALS AND MEDIA





  1. What is different between commercial and authentic material?
commercial material is data has been produced for handle teaching so that the teacher is not prepare material and also the teacher can providing lessons with some useful suggestion and techniques. Whereas authentic material is data has been produced but the teacher can be creative in teaching and learning process so atmosphere when teaching and learning process become effective and fan.

What is the importance of knowing the term method and its components for an English teacher?

  1. Discuss the strength and weaknesses of each method/approach.
  2. Take an English teacher in your previous secondary school as an example. How would you describe his/her method or principle in TEFL?

Task 2
I think knowing the term method and its components for an English teacher is important because in teaching and learning process need method and its components. In other to teachers can reach learning process that effective and fan.
Task 3
  1. – Grammar translation approach has strength like classes are taught in the mother tongue; with little achieve use of the target language, whereas weakness from it is little or no attention is given to pronunciation.                                                          - Direct method has strength like this material is first presented orally with actions       or picture, whereas weakness it is the culture associated with the target language is also taught inductively.
  2. My teacher in senior high school taught with traditional method. It is meant he just taught about Grammar and never taught speaking, reading and writing so that we didn’t understand with English and when he taught English, we felt boring and lazy for following study it.

TEFL DAY 1: FIRST LANGUAGE, SECOND LANGUAGE, FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Discuss the ease and difficulty  of learning a first, second and foreign language!

Task 1
·         I think learning first language is easy because it is language which we brought it since baby and we got it by ours around where we are living. And difficulty learning first language is not all people understand about first language because it is used as local language so that many people from other villages or cities don’t know speak it. Example when first time I arrived in malang, I don’t understand when my friends who living in here using java language. So not all people knowing first language.
·         Learning second language is easy because language is used as formal communicative and we get it after learned the first language. We are using it when we are communication with other people which from city. And difficulty learning second language is the people never communicative with people cities.
·         Learning foreign language is interesting for me, because we can know when foreigner speaks with his friends and we can understand when we are reading novel and book who using foreign language. Difficulty in learning foreign language the people never get school because the foreign language we got in the school.

Answer:
  1. The teacher always give sprite to his students for study and trying to understood every students skils. Step by step he was teaching method palying music to his students. And also he was devided his students for doing job each other, every students have differnt job, there are playing guitar, playing drum, playing piano, backing vocal, lighting and security. They was united for to got their dream, to be rock and roll although the teacher know that his student still kids but he sure that they have big skills and also he give proof to other peoples that the kids can be rock and roll.
  2. A. Goal: become rock and roll
B. Method: group approach ( this film was telling different characteristic students each other and the teacher was united them with teaching music so that effective).
C. Procedure: step by step, one by one, the teacher was teaching of playing music to his student and he always patient in teaching process and also he respected and choiche song that creating by his student.
D. Evaluation: although he is not teacher but he can teaching well, so that when he was out from school, his student was feeling lost and lazy for study again and they decided for gone their teacher because they want continue their program, to be rock and roll.
      3. According to me the teacher is good teacher because in the teaching process so relaxing, enjoying, interesting but seriously so students are easier to understand when the teacher explained his subject (material).
     4. According to me, the factors to determine the success of the teaching and learning pocess is the teacher always give motivation to his student in other to they are keeping sprite for study. The teacher should be understand characteristic his students and aslo the taecher is do approch to his student so they are feel enjoying while with their teacher. And the teacher has humorous because students dislike so serious, they want relaxing and intresting in the teaching learning process.
